_An Oat
By Tess Hemmerling
An oat.
Do you see the detail?
So small in my hand.
Look.
Do you see its small twisted tail?
Feel.
Soft fuzz coats its hard brown skin.
It smells like the grain fields of far away.
An oat.

Golden Leaves
By Amelia O
Golden leaves fall like yellow rain,
Onto a black and empty plain.
Like birds, they fly when strong winds blow.
They drop like flies, or falling snow.
Snag
By Amelia O
Dead trees
Bare, branchless
Birds fly near
Makes me feel fascinated
Snag
Lizard

Lizard
Scaly, small
Basking and staring
Makes me a giant

Grizzly Peak
By Tess H.
It is big, bold and beautiful.
It stands tall, sharp and strong.
It holds a secret history in the branches of its trees.
Many a bird or a beast has rested there.
Love, peace and care live there too,
Resting in those trees, and in the grass, in the soil and on the rocks.
When the wind blows through the trees it plays a certain melody with the leaves.
That is Grizzly Peak.
Rainbow World
By Tess H.
The leaves carry a rainbow over the ground.
Red leaves, yellow leaves, green, orange,
Peach, cherry, maple, dogwood, apple!
As they cover the ground they make no sound,
Only when the wind blows by,
Do they jump up and dance and prance
Over street, over town
Until the wind goes on and leaves them behind.
Leaving a rainbow on the ground.
Stellar’s Jay
By Mirandah P
This morning my dad and I walked to school. When we were about half way down the road a Stellar’s Jay swooped down in front of our faces.
“There is a Stellar’s Jay!” I shouted.
My dad and I hadn’t seen a Stellar’s Jay together since I was four, but the strange thing about this one was that its crest was black, not blue!
Snow
By Amelia O’Skea
Snow on the branch of an aspen tree
Looks a little strange to me.
“Is that white snow, or is it bark?”
It’s hard to tell unless it’s dark.
Fog
By Amelia O’Skea
The fog covers the grass,
Like a cloak of gray,
Spreading over the trees,
And fields today.
Then sunbeams rest
Where the cloak was laying,
Then the birds start flying,
And the branches start swaying.
Sunset
By Amelia O’Skea
The sky is painted pink and blue.
The trees have turned an orange hue.
The sun disappears into the dark night,
Not reappearing until the morning light.
Fall Trees
By Toby Barnes
The trees are like skeletons in the breeze.
Their flesh is on the ground,
And some skin is hanging by a thread.
It’s all just some old bones standing still.
A December Morning
By Toby Barnes
I can’t see past the roof ‘cause of the fog!
It’s like the sky wanted some privacy
and it closed the curtains.
An October Morning
By Toby Barnes
You can’t see a part of Grizzly Peak.
And you can’t see the sky at all.
It’s like the sky got cold and put a blanket over itself
Gizzly
By Toby Barnes
Grizzly
Big, beautiful
Full of animals
Makes me feel free

December Rose
By Molly Knighton
Slow to bloom, but nice to see.
The petals are its dress.
The dew is sparkling,
like pink diamonds on its satin gloves.
The rose is standing outside my door,
ready for the ball.
The Wind Blows
By Edwin Tickner
The wind blows with the clouds on a single scarlet,
flying with the breeze.
Going to the mountains on the clouds,
Up to the deep blue sky,
As the water gently falls.
Gentle Wind
By Edwin Tickner
The skies are gold and red.
The wind is very gentle,
Like a bird landing softly on a single branch.
Like a single scarlet floating off with the wind.
Night
By Tess Hemmerling
Night, is the time of talon and claw,
Nose and beak, feather and paw.
Night is the time when the hunters are out,
The hiders are in and no one’s about.
Night is the time of darkness and sin,
A time when outgoers are out
And ingoers, in.
Night.
Starlight
By Annabelle
I woke up and the beam of the stars
was pink and white.
The color flows over the stars.
It was so pretty in the night sky.
The Forest
By Iris
When winter is coming
Snow is falling
And the animals are sleeping.
After winter
Then comes spring
And the birds sing along.
After the birds sing, the butterflies fly too.
Christmas Snowflakes
By Halia
The snow is falling
Flakes are dripping one by one.
When the snowflakes fall to the ground,
They melt in little puddles of snow.
Soon they melt,
One by one.
Over and over again.
And soon it will be spring!
Mourning Dove’s Song
By Sawyer Zook
A mourning dove sits on a perch
Singing a sorrowful song.
He sings and he sings
Until he can’t sing his sad song.
When it has ended the wind passes by
And takes the sorrow away.
Full Moon Rises
By Haila Davis
The full moon rises from the horizon.
When the moon is new, the stars start to drop.
New Moon is the ghost of Full Moon.
The Walk
By Carlos
When I walk I can see my shadow.
It moves like the moon
If I turn back, it’s gone!
Molly
Oak bends and sways freely in the wind at the park.
The rose withers slowly for months on end as spring approaches.
The ivy cascades down the wall like a waterfall.
Haikus
By Molly
The weeping willow
Bends and sway in the cool breeze
I am under it.
The daisies blossom
In my very best friend’s yard
I love their nice smell.
